A crowd of more than 120 people gathered at Uardry on 1 September for the 2011 Uardry Dohne Performance sale.
An outstanding line–up of 200 AA & A Uardry Dohne rams went through the rostrum to gross $365,300, and average $1,883 for the 194 sold. The demand for quality rams was strong with the first 50 lots averaging a huge $2,988.
Bill Pye’s Calga Dohne stud of Coonamble, NSW, was successful in purchasing the top priced ram of the sale for $6,600. Lot 36, UD101316, was by proven Uardry sire, UD080119, had an AA grade, and a high index value 141.2. James Lilburne of Australian Topstock, who purchased the ram on behalf of Mr Pye, said the ram was very correct. He displayed large hindquarters with excellent carcass attributes, while also producing a crimpy white wool, typical of the UD050068 bloodline.
Uardry Dohne genetics were also in demand from other studs. James Pilon of Narriah Dohne stud, West Wyalong purchased Lot 9 for $4,000, while new client, John Evans of Coleslea Dohne stud, Leeton purchased a ram with an index value of 132.9 for $3,000. Lucky Downs Dohne stud, Bathurst, secured 2 rams to average $3,200. Roger Trewick also purchased 2 rams to average $2,800 for his newly established Dohne stud at Elmore.
Returning Uardry client, Hamish Ellis of Walla Walla, NSW, paid the second top price of $4,200 for Lot 1, UD100106, with an index value of 134.6.
AS & RF Ferry, Elaine, Victoria purchased 6 outstanding rams to average $3,167.
Volume buyers again dominated the sale. Tom Holt of Coonong, Urana secured 15 rams to average $2,200. New clients, Yarram Park of Willaura, Victoria also purchased 15 rams to average $1,107. 12 rams went to Nicholas Moore of Yeoval to average $1,817. Brit and Zel Barker from Grenfell, and Charles Arthur from Moulamein each purchased 10 rams.
In conjunction with the Performance sale, 576 surplus Uardry Dohne ewe hoggets went under the hammer. The ewes were sold in 7 lots with the Dohne stud ewes averaging $260 and the Dohne Commercial ewe hoggets averaging $196. Roger Trewick topped the ewe sale purchasing 21 Dohne stud ewes to average $375 per head. Fiona and Darren Cameron of Koonik Dohne stud secured 38 Uardry Dohne stud ewes to average $298 per head. Lucky Downs Dohne stud of Bathurst were also successful in purchasing 60 Dohne stud ewes to average $200. Other buyers included the Barclay Family of Beeac, Victoria, and Hassad Australia which secured 320 Commercial Dohne ewe hoggets.
