Dohne Merinos at Uardry
Our prime objective at Uardry is to provide our clients with sheep breeding options to assist them achieve a profitable bottom line.
We have recognised the recent swing to producing a meat type of sheep, to take advantage of the buoyant lamb market, but we also understand that many of our clients are dedicated wool producers at heart.
We could see there would be a shortage of merino ewes if classed-out breeding and cull ewes continued to be joined to terminal meat sires.
We were also concerned the increased demand for the many imported sheep breeds could contaminate the Australian wool clip as wool producers looked for an alternative.
At Uardry we set out to find a meat sheep suited to pastoral areas with comparable growth rates, whilst retaining the most profitable wool cut and quality without any black fibres: a true dual-purpose sheep. |
