Increased demand at the 2008 Uardry Performance Sale

Spirits were high and the demand was outstanding at the 2008 Uardry Dohne Performance sale on September 4. A total clearance saw 100 Dohne rams sell to a top of $3000 and average $1561. An increase of nearly $450 on last year’s average. Uardry Manager, Ben Lane explained “sheep producers are increasingly focused on adding value to their flock, hence the demand for a plainer type sheep with the dual purpose attributes of both wool and meat.”

The top priced ram, UD041873, sold to new client, Neil Kristiansen of Northam, Western Australia for $3000. The AA Dohne ram had an Index Value of 131.6 with his EBV meat traits recording a body weight 6.1, muscle diameter 0.5, fat 0.2, and wool traits of 3.0 fleece weight, -1.4 fibre diameter and a CV -1.1.

The sale consisted predominantly of volume buyers. GJ & SJ Robertson, Telangatuk, Victoria was successful in purchasing 10 rams at an average of $1610. Coonong Pty Ltd, Urana secured 7 rams with an average of $1971. M & M Winning of Bollon, Queensland averaged $1000 for 7 rams purchased.
