WELL-known Australian Wool Innovation director and sheepmeat processor Roger Fletcher will headline an impressive list of speakers at the annual Uardry Spring Ram Expo on August 18.
The 2009 NSW Farmer of the Year, Michael O’Brien, of Walgett, will share his experience as a commercial Dohne producer and new grazing techniques while Alex Russell from NSW Industry and Investment will discuss the importance of a self-replacing flock in the current Australian sheep industry, including the advantages of plain-bodied breeding ewes.
On display will be Merino and Dohne sale rams for the upcoming Uardry spring auctions as well as stud sires.
Producers will also have an opportunity to view rams from the new Sims Uardry Poll Merino stud before they are available for the first time at the Uardry Foundation sale on September 21.
Uardry manager Ben Lane said the breeding direction of the Sims Uardry Poll stud was clear: ,“to produce the Sims Uardry type with no horns,”.
“The dual-purpose characteristics of the Sims Uardry blood are the benchmark of the modern Merino; large plain-bodied fertile animals with soft lustrous free-growing wool,” Mr Lane said.
A selection of the 200 exciting young Dohne rams to be auctioned at the Uardry Dohne Performance sale on Tuesday, September 2 will also be available for viewing.
The sale at Uardry in early September will be the largest auction sale for Dohne rams since the breed was introduced to Australia.
The 2010 Spring Ram Expo day will commence at 9am with speakers addressing the audience at 10am sharp.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
